I'm on a healing journey. I'm discovering that healing isn't instant, but rather, in most cases is a process. Most of the time, we don't heal all at once and that's okay. I haven't quite figured out what makes us want to rush the process of healing, I just know we do. When someone's heart is broken, we want them to hurry and feel better. Yet we can be more understanding and patient with someone who has a broken leg or some other physical illness. I have walked with people through physical illness and not once did I ever hear the doctor impatiently say, "You've just got to heal faster! Hurry up, would ya?!" Yet we do it to ourselves and we do it to others when it comes to emotional healing. I wish we would'nt do that. God is the Great Physician. He is the patient Physician. He does not hurry our healing along, He does not get frustrated with us in the process. He lovingly stands by and tends to us as we are healing. God doesn't want to just put a bandaid on our broken hearts. He wants to be the salve...the healing balm...binding up the wounds...restoring health. It's His desire because God IS the balm!!!
"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and same such as have a contrite spirit" Psalm 34:18
"He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds" Psalm 147:3
I don't want to rush the healing process and miss the nearness of God as it happens. God doesn't want us to miss His healing presence either.
